A productive, once-a-day dairy operation in one of New Zealand’s most sought-after holiday destinations is for sale.
Bayleys Thames rural salesperson Glenn Tanner says the 181ha property on Mill Creek Road is just 10 minutes from the Coromandel Peninsula’s main town of Whitianga and close to the region’s many beaches with great fishing and boating all on offer.
“There’s only a few dairy farms on the Coromandel Peninsula, so this is a rare opportunity for someone looking for a really tidy dairy operation with scope for more production, in a spot of the country that offers such an amazing lifestyle few other regions can match,” Tanner says.
“Whitianga has almost everything required with great hospitality venues and farm service stores, plus primary and secondary schools, so the location is a real bonus for this farm.”
The property has an effective grazing area of about 110ha and the milking platform covers about 105ha. There is a large area of bush land which is home to Kiwis and 8.5ha of pine trees 30 to 40 years old.
A lateral shift irrigation system is supplied from the river on the property with a resource consent in place for the irrigation water take, it covers more than 50ha of the milking platform, ensuring consistent production.
Production from the herd of 260 cows milked for the 2023-24 season was just over 93,500kg/ha milk solids, with 150 bales of grass silage made on the farm and 100 tonnes of bought-in supplement fed.
Tanner says the property is in great heart, with strong fertility, two fully compliant effluent ponds and travelling irrigator which spreads pond effluent water over 23ha of the property.
The two homes are in good condition, sited for sun and views over the property. The main home has five bedrooms and two bathrooms, and the second home is a three-bedroom dwelling.
“Both homes have been well maintained so it is well set up for new owners to take over,” he says.
There are 57 paddocks, fenced to a good standard. Boundary fences are mostly seven-wire permanent post and batten construction, and the internal fencing is a mix of three and four-wire electric.
Cows are milked in a tidy 32-bail rotary shed and there is a good range of implement sheds, feed bins, cattle yards and two hay sheds, including one set up for calf rearing.
“This is an impressive farm and a real opportunity for someone looking for that mix of consistent farm income and a family lifestyle on the Coromandel Peninsula with its outstanding beaches, boating and fishing on the back doorstep.”
31 Mill Creek Road, Whitianga is for sale by negotiation.
