This dairy farm is located exactly where you want to be in Reporoa. Nestled under the Paeroa Ranges offering an appealing native backdrop to the property, while delivering a slightly higher rainfall than most in the district.
Milking 430 cows over the 145 hectares (more or less) effective, the calving date is the 25th of July, producing a comfortable 145,000ms. Farm policy over the previous two seasons is to milk the herd once a day after Christmas until the end of the season. A simple ring race system offers a very small walk for the herd either to or from the dairy.
A 40 ASHB well located and equipped with in shed feeding and ACRs. Between 600 - 800kg of feed is purchased per cow each year of palm kernel mix. Contour is 80% mowable, water is supplied via a Reporoa Council scheme. Fertility is at an optimum for ryegrass growth, some winter and summer cropping make up part of the current policy which also allows new pasture to be sown.
A summer crop of turnips 10 hectares (approximately) and a further 10 hectares of swedes for the Winter has been grown every year since 2014 as part of a pastoral renewal program. Predominantly planted ONE50 perennial ryegrass and clovers. This year the farm will only be doing a summer crop of turnips. Only a true surplus of grass is harvested in the Spring, for example, 40t of grass harvested in 2018 and 20t of grass harvested in 2019.
The great contour allows for 90% of the fertiliser to be spread by truck, farm policy is concerning nitrogen is trickle N behind the cows five or six times in the season (depending on moisture). There is an option of an airstrip handy should the need arise.
